Election Day
“He changes times and seasons; He removes kings and establishes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.” — Daniel 2:21
As Election Day approaches, it’s natural to feel the weight of uncertainty and wonder how the results will shape the future. Many people pray, vote, and wait with anticipation, but there is an enduring truth that stands above the shifting circumstances: God is sovereign. In His infinite wisdom, He orchestrates events according to His plan, appointing leaders and kingdoms to fulfill His purposes.
God Appoints Leaders, Good and Bad
The Bible teaches us that God uses both “vessels of honor and dishonor” to accomplish His will. As Romans 9:21 reminds us, “Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?” This can be a difficult truth to accept, especially when we see leaders who seem to be contrary to God’s character or who cause suffering. However, even these leaders are used by God to shape nations, reveal His justice, and bring about His ultimate purpose.
“The Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He will, and sets over it the lowest of men.” — Daniel 4:17
This verse reminds us that no leader gains power by their own strength or strategy alone. God’s hand is always at work, whether we can see it or not. He is the One who “removes kings and establishes them.” Our prayers and participation in the process are important, but they do not override His divine will.
After a National Day of Prayer: Trusting in God’s Plan
On Election Day, many will turn to God in prayer, asking for His guidance and intervention. However, the outcome may not always align with our expectations. This is a test of faith, reminding us that our understanding is limited while God’s wisdom is infinite.
God’s timing and purposes are often beyond our comprehension, yet they are never random or haphazard. He may choose to delay certain events, giving nations and individuals more time for repentance. Or He may allow things to unfold in a way that brings about the fulfillment of prophecy, such as the events of the Great Tribulation. Ultimately, only He knows the timing, and He is always in control.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.” — Isaiah 55:8
Even if the result seems disappointing or surprising, we can rest in the knowledge that nothing is a surprise to God. Our role is to remain faithful, to pray continually, and to trust that God is working everything according to His plan for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
Trusting in God’s Sovereignty
As we move forward, let us remember that no election result, leader, or government can change the ultimate authority of God. His kingdom is everlasting, and His rule is unchanging. The power of earthly kingdoms rises and falls, but God’s reign remains forever. With hearts focused on His eternal promises, we can face Election Day and every day with confidence, knowing that the Lord of Heaven is in control.
